Tough running 💪💪 tonight for the 37 (20 men 17 ladies)🏃🏃🏃🏃 and our doggy friends too 🐕 🐕🐕 🐾🐾 who hit the sand to run to Hilbre Island and back from the seafront in West Kirby..
Weather conditions were perfect a little overcast but a warm evening ..Neil had checked …and checked …and checked the tide times to make sure we weren’t wading through water or swimming back🏊🏊.
So in our oldest trainers and after Grandad Dave crossed us over the road we were good to go😊
Without a breeze it was still very wet underfoot so there was no avoiding paddling along the wet sand. It was a fairly straightforward run to Little eye and then it got more difficult towards Hilbre Island this was much more testing and tough 💪💪 on the legs negotiating rock pools, seaweed, slippy wet rocks and narrow paths.
It was worth it though, Hilbre Island was stunning …we were surrounded by great views of The Wirral and North Wales coast line …perfect …we are so lucky to have such amazing places to run….and to have such great friends to run with 👬👫👭 so it was then time for the club photo 📷 before setting off back to where we started🏃🏃🏃🏃.
It didn’t get any easier going back as legs were tiring….maybe the thought of food and drinks helped keep us motivated 😊 🍺🍔.
For some if running to Hilbre Island and back wasn’t enough it was then off to run a circuit of the Marine lake!! 🏃🏃 and others the easier option of an ice cream 🍦🍦😂 .
All in all it was a real achievement for all who took part and most of us will agree it’s not an easy run.
Once we were all back and the feet and trainer washing completed the next stop was Wetherspoons yay!!
OR WAS IT….??????
WELL IT NEARLY WASN’T.
Grandad Dave had a very big senior moment…he mislaid his car key.🚗🔑…convinced he’d given it to Jenny for safe keeping. ..she assured him he hadnt….we all started searching the carpark, by the water tap, beachfront and slipway but no luck. Jack had to be stopped from running back to Hilbre to look for it…suggestions were made of breaking into the car …hopes were high when at the ice cream kiosk a key 🔑 had been handed in 😊 but sadly not Grandad Daves😢
HOWEVER….on the eleventh hour Mark found the key 🔑 hanging on the railing…how did we all miss it?? A cheer went up 🙌🙌🙌 thank goodness we could go for tea now 😄. We had a very happy and relieved Grandad Dave who was very grateful to Mark for saving the day…
Wetherspoons didn’t disappoint and plates of curry, burgers, chips etc and coffee ☕🍨🍟🍔🍺🍺 were consumed to refuel ready for our next run wherever that may be🏃🏃.
Tonight was an example of the true friendship we have in our club seeing everyone’s concern and support for Grandad Dave in what could have turned out to be a difficult situation had the key not been found…
VRR you are the best 👍👍💕 🙌🙌
