The Delamere Run… Yes we’re going on a bear hunt 🐻🐻 but all that was there were the 17 eager runners 🏃♀️ 🏃🏻♂️and the doggy 🐩🐩 crèche walkers gathered for this annual pilgrimage into the Cheshire woodland 🌲🌲🌲. Split into two events, those who like the seven mile white route, and those who prefer the gentle four miles round the Great Lake..ably led by grandad Dave so we wouldn’t get lost. We put our trust in a man who couldn’t find his car keys 🔑😉😉 but we never got lost. We did turn back though after the dog walkers shrieked, “Come back – Neil Plested has just arrived! “ We couldn’t leave a man behind because folklore has it that there’s apes 🦍🐒🙊🙉🙈🐵 and cheeky monkeys in the woods and we had to stick together. In a scene reminiscent of the railway children, we all waved at a passing train as it passed below us, 🚂 tooting it’s horn in appreciation. The run round the lake was great, the noise from all the wading birds 🦢🐤🐦🐧 guiding us in the right direction. It was like a rain forest in there: very humid, still air being a breeding ground for the mosquitoes 🦟🦟🦟🦟 Ankles bitten, we completed a steady four miles and were ready for a traditional picnic 🧺🍺🥟🥮🥪🍗 but right on cue 🌧🌧🌧🌧 torrential rain had us scurrying back to our cars 🚗 🚙🏎, though some did use the waiting room on the station platform as a makeshift restaurant. Shame the rain never held off for another hour – it would have been a fine ending to a very pleasant run on the summer calendar.
